How to Choose a Container
What kind of container works best for a terrarium? Unless you are creating a succulent terrarium, which I’d argue is more of a planter than a self-contained ecosystem, an ideal terrarium container is made of clear glass and has a lid. Pretty simple, right? Anything from a miniature perfume bottle to a giant carboy, demijohn, or aquarium could work. The container’s height and the size of its opening will influence your decision when choosing what to plant inside. Or vice versa—if you want to plant a tall alocasia, you’re not going to use that 4” spice jar in the first pic. Narrow openings are tricky, but we have plenty of tricks to share! The next workshop is already sold out (yay, thank you!), and there is another coming up on December 5. We love upcycling (obviously), but you can spend hundreds on your container if you want.
